Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Higher Education & Highways has engaged SMEC to conduct a Feasibility Study for Phase II of a four-lane elevated highway from Rajagiriya to Athurugiriya. The feasibility study will help to select a socially, environmentally and economically viable alignment for the proposed highway connecting Rajagiriya to Outer Circular Highway.
The expressway project aims to ease congestion in Metropolitan Colombo, provide high speed connectivity between the administration district and CBD, and optimise connectivity to the existing expressway network around Colombo.
Undertaken in a joint venture with Resources Development Consultants, this project cements SMEC as a dominant player in Sri Lanka’s roads and highways sector, having provided similar studies for the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway and Central Expressway.
